A one-bedroom unit in a Boulder apartment building hands a T-Mobile Home Internet gateway a much shorter list of usable spots than a detached house does: one or two exterior-facing windows, shared interior walls a cord or mount can't run through, and a lease that usually rules out drilling or exterior cable runs. …

A 5G home internet gateway solves exactly one problem: it pulls a broadband-grade signal out of the air and turns it into something a home network can use. What happens to that signal once it's past the gateway is a separate problem, and it's the one a single gateway's built-in Wi-Fi radio often can't finish on its own …

The riskiest part of trading cable for 5G home internet isn't the new gateway sitting by the window — it's the week on either side of the switch, where a rushed cancellation call or a missed equipment deadline turns what should be a clean upgrade into an extra month of billing on a service you already quit. A recent …

A remote worker who wires up a home security camera, assigns it a fixed local address, forwards port 8080 on the router, and then can't reach the camera from outside the house has just run into carrier-grade NAT — not a router misconfiguration. It's an easy thing to chase for an evening before realizing the router did …

Set a 5G home internet gateway in the wrong spot and everything downstream of that decision — video calls that freeze, streaming that drops to a lower resolution mid-evening, a Wi-Fi connection that just feels unreliable — traces back to one fixable variable: where the box sits relative to the nearest cell tower. A …

Two neighbors on the same Boulder cul-de-sac can run the identical carrier's address checker on the identical day and get opposite results — one qualifies, one gets waitlisted — and neither result is a mistake. Fixed-wireless 5G home internet is sold address by address, not neighborhood by neighborhood, which means the …

Add one line to the moving checklist that most relocation guides skip until the boxes are already unpacked: home internet doesn't work the way it used to. A generation of movers learned to call the cable company, book a technician window, and wait for someone to run a line — an appointment that rarely lines up neatly …

The advertised monthly price for 5G home internet is almost always the floor, not the ceiling — but for fixed-wireless providers that floor sits remarkably close to what you actually pay, which is not something cable subscribers have historically been able to say. The gap between headline pricing and real monthly cost …

The entire installation arrives in a box the size of a small lamp, and there is no appointment window to wait through. That is the quiet appeal of 5G home internet: you become the install technician, and the whole job usually takes less time than brewing a pot of coffee. The catch is that wireless internet rewards …

"Unlimited" is printed on every 5G home internet plan sold in Boulder, and each carrier also publishes a less-read page saying what happens when a household uses a lot of it. Those pages differ. T-Mobile sets a fixed 1.2TB line, Verizon uses a moving threshold tied to its heaviest users, and AT&T Internet Air publishes …
